Amanda Brugel

Brugel is the only Canadian part of the Season 1 team. She was seen only at times. It has been her main cast in the series ever since. If asked about her part in the show and if there are any similarities to her own life outside the camera, Brugel said that she drew on her own experiences of discrimination based on race in relation to the way Marthas are considered. "I haven't used the same experience in her position as Martha, but also in her personal life as Martha however, as I've said, past experiences when I feel like I'm being stifled by circumstances because of race." Though I've not experienced physical abuse because of my skin tone but I did experience insults verbally. When someone says something hard or biting, I use any racial insults that felt real to me. This feeling is used for almost every scene since I can feel as if she's been punched in some way in almost each scene." Amanda Amanda Amanda

Madekwe comes from a multi-cultural family. She was born within South London. Her father is a Nigerian-Swiss, as is her mom who's English.
